The popularity of mobile augmented reality applications (augmented reality, AR) may rise significantly in the next five years. A research firm Juniper Research forecasts that the growth of awareness of these programs among consumers and the distribution of retail segments and entertainment oriented applications will increase the annual number of downloads of these programs in 2017 to 2.5 B times, Dailycomm.ru reports.
Users can take another look at the world around with AR-applications - the essence of these programs is that the image captured through the camera of mobile devices gets corresponding digital layer. In retail stores AR-applications can be used as customers’ assistant - for example, in virtual fitting rooms or in order to get more information on the product you will simply need to focus your phone’s camera on it.
Juniper also predicts the emergence of a growing number of AR-applications for entertainment.
