Annual revenue from mobile applications to exceed $30B in 2012

Total revenue from mobile applications in 2012 will be twice as much than in the previous year and amount to more than $30B. This forecast has been recently published by a research company ABI Research. This amount of money reflects not only the payment for downloads, but also the revenues from subscriptions, advertising and purchases within the application.

The high interest of consumers in applications was long equal to the number of downloads, but the economic side of the business has come to the fore in 2012. We are no longer talking about a short-term gold rush. The applications have become important digital industry - the senior analyst of ABI Aapo Markkanen says in a report.

The way applications can be converted into money was shown by Apple on its own example. The company launched App Store in 2008 to sell software for mobile devices, which remains the most successful service in its field. App Store has over 700K applications for the iPhone and iPad.
