Ford launches Personalized Fuel-Efficiency App Challenge

The American automaker Ford has announced its support of a contest for the developers of mobile and web apps Personalized Fuel Efficiency App Challenge. The company will provide cash prizes totaling $50K for the winners of the competition.

The contest participants will need to develop applications based on Ford’s OpenXC which set a variety of vehicle parameters through its software and hardware solutions in real time, including rotation angle, GPS coordinates, speed.

The evaluation criteria of finished apps include their efficiency in optimizing fuel consumption considering air temperature, terrain, road conditions, individual driving style and many other factors.

Accepting applications from potential participants started on Wednesday, March 24.
