Russia?s VIST presents driverless truck robot
VIST Mining Technology, a Moscow-based RandD company, has developed and tested in Belarus its IT-enabled rock hauler?a BelAZ truck robot.
VIST Mining Technology, a Moscow-based R&D company, has developed and tested in Belarus its IT-enabled rock hauler?a BelAZ truck robot, the Skolkovo Foundation website reports. The developer has been a resident of the Skolkovo innovation hub outside Moscow since the fall of 2011. The BelAZ truck, a rock hauler with a carrying capacity of 130 tons, is reported to be powered by electromechanical powertrain; it is ?fully self-contained, requires no driver,? and is driven and operated by special software developed by VIST Mining Technology and its parent firm, VIST Group. The truck?s movements and routing in an open-cast mine or quarry are directed by a dedicated control server, which also prioritizes operations for the huge four-wheel robot, said Mikhail Makeyev, project director, VIST Mining Technology. He added that the software can be installed on any model of the BelAZ rock haulers with a carrying capacity of 90 tons and more. Longer term, it will be installed on other open-cast mine engineering projects, he hoped. The most recent testing has been conducted on a testing range run by BelAZ, VIST?s partner in neighboring Belarus and the leading rock hauler manufacturer in the former Soviet Union...
