Urals to have new robot-aided machining engineering centerRussia?s VEB Bank and Yekaterinburg-based Urals Optical and Mechanical Plant have agreed to jointly develop a sectoral nanotech center and a robot-aided machining engineering center.

Russia?s VEB Bank announced last week that it has inked a cooperation agreement with Yekaterinburg-based Urals Optical & Mechanical Plant calling for the joint development of a sectoral nanotech center and a robot-aided machining engineering center. The robot-aided machining engineering center to be completed in 4Q 2014 will have a projected capacity of more than 720,000 parts a year. Its product line is expected to include 3,000 different items. The future machining production site will be highly automated and employ up to 20 people, VEB Bank said. VEB Bank, a major government-owned financial corporation and one of Russia?s ?development institutions? alongside RVC, Skolkovo, Rusnano and some others, hopes the creation of the sectoral nanotech center will give a boost to the development of the national nanotech segment and help ensure Russia?s competitive advantages in the global high technology market...
