Volga scientists assist Pirelli in improving tire properties
Scientists at Vyatka State University in Kirov, in the Volga area, have completed a study that Italy?s Pirelli ordered last year to improve the properties of tires.
Scientists at Vyatka State University (VyatSU) in Kirov, in the Volga area, have completed a study that Italy?s Pirelli and the Silvio Tronchetti Provera Foundation ordered last year to improve the properties of tires, Pirelli.colesa.ru reported. The Italians asked the Kirov scientists to do the research last September when the Russian university and the Italian foundation shook hands on an R&D deal for the improvement of the tires? dynamic properties and environmental safety, the development of additives for harsh climatic conditions, and the use of new ingredients. VyatSU?s chemical and elastomer processing technology department is reported to have been the primary driver in the research. The researchers focused on the study of reasons and factors that lead to rubber deterioration at low temperatures. They looked into the possibility of using new components in future eco-friendly rubber mixtures and reportedly developed new methodologies aimed at increasing the tire?s service life. In their work, the Kirov researchers are said to have used state-of-the-art equipment developed and made at the university...
