Stanford invested $3,6M in the Startups` Fund of its students The Stanford University gave a grant in amount of $3,6M to accelerator of Startups StartX, which has been established specially for making investments in companies? In which at least one of founders is a student of Stanford. Money will be used for the widening the staff of consultants and new Startups attraction. Besides, the Stanford Hospital will also invest in the Fund.

Noncommercial Fund of StartX has been founded in 2009 upon initiative of students and is financially and legally independent from the University. Early StartX attracted about $1,6M from a range of companies, including Microsoft, Cisco, Greylock Ventures and AOL. During the next three years StartX will get $1,2M annually from the University.

The Fund also has other limits in investments – money will receive only those companies, which attracted more than $500K, herewith with minimal share of venture capital and professional investors. The total amount of the Fund investments is not limited.

Besides the great spectrum of opportunities for graduates of Stanford, who have connections with investors and business, the StartX Fund`s prestige grows. In 2013 there have occurred several acquisitions of the StartX Startups – Instagram purchased the company Luma, Apple bought WifiSlam, Yahoo - Loki Studios.
