Industrial companies in Saratov, in the Lower Volga area, are tapping into new vacuum metallurgy technologies developed at a local university, regional news portal Sarbc.ru reported. The innovation technologies are being developed at the Scientific and Technology Center (STC) of Saratov Chernyshevsky State University (SCSU), located on the premises of Tantal, a local manufacturing company. The scientists are looking into new techniques of vacuum melting, thermal treatment and application of iron, nickel, cobalt and titanium alloy based coatings. Regional authorities claim the STC is ?Russia?s only platform to host projects like these.? The Tantal-based center is one of the university?s two departments working to develop and commercialize nanotechnologies. SCSU also expects to open a third one later this year to focus on electrically molded nanomaterials. According to Alexander Denisenko, the CEO of EPK Saratov, a local industrial firm, ?our company has already established ties with the STC and is now ready to move our relationship from a purely scientific level to a commercial level...
