Wicron, a Moscow-based company, has created in Skolkovo a remote presence robotic system called ?Webot,? the Skolkovo Foundation website announced. The key developers are four alumni of Moscow?s Bauman University of Technology who initially designed the robot as an electronic ?merchandiser? for use at retail outlets to help shoppers. In addition, the Webot could be used for remote ?visits? to museums and exhibitions. According to the project authors, ?two of our robots already stand in the Central House of Artists on Moscow?s Krymsky Val Street and will soon start their work.? The Webot could also be employed as a means of communications, and an analog of Skype. Tapping into the newest teleconference technologies, the system would offer a decent quality of audio and video signals limited only by the Internet channel?s bandwidth capacity, the developers claimed.
