Inter RAO, one of Russia?s leading electrical energy companies with a broad international presence, announced last week that it is developing innovation technologies to cut its operation costs. On the premises of the Kostroma Heat and Power Station in Central Russia, the energy giant has launched its innovation start-up called ?Inter RAO ? Coating Application Center.? This is the first project brought to fruition by Energy Without Borders, an R&D fund set up by Inter RAO back in 2011. To order from Energy Without Borders, the new company has already developed innovation solutions, robotics equipment and special materials to be used as coatings for parts. According to Inter RAO CEO Boris Kovalchuk, the project has cost his company about $8.6m. The new Center is focused on making coatings and performing overhauls of electrical energy gear. Using its new technologies is said to enable RAO to double the service life of turbine blades and also boost the efficiency of its power units...
