The RVC Biofund, an RVC investment arm, and Axellance Group, a young Russian company, have agreed to set up an entity to offer services in electron beam processing of medical and other products, the Russian Venture Company (RVC) website announced. The new company will be named ?Akcenter Interregional Sterilization Technology Center,? or just Akcenter. The founders hope it will evolve as the first player in the Russian market to offer radiation sterilization services on a commercial basis and in accordance with Russian and international standards. In this first round of funding, the co-investors are expected to pump an initial $6m into the new entity. Plans are for Akcenter to open its inaugural branch office in the Vladimir region some 180km east of Moscow, in the local Stavrovo industrial park. The envisioned facility there is expected to enable Akcenter to treat more than 60,000 cubic meters of disposable medical products a year, an amount believed to be enough to meet the demand for medical sterilization services in both Vladimir and the neighboring region of Ivanovo, two of Russia?s main producers of disposable products for medical use...
