OptoSystems, a Russian medical device developer and resident of the TechnoSpark Nanotech Center in Troitsk just outside Moscow, has come up with a next gen solution for laser-aided vision correction and showcased it last weekend to leading ophthalmosurgeons from all over the world, Rusnano, Russia?s nanotech giant, reported. During a workshop held in the WetLab format, a new platform for refractive surgery was presented. The platform consists of Femto Visum, a femtosecond laser system enabling almost noninvasive surgeries without damaging the external layers of the eye?s cornea, and Microscan Visum, an excimer laser system used in vision correction. To achieve the therapeutic goal, both systems are to be used. At the beginning, using the femtosecond laser helps create what?s called a valve, which is the cornea?s upper layer about 100 micrometers thick, which is then elevated and the excimer laser is used to correct a patient?s vision...
