In September, 9 in BioBusiness Incubator of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology for 4-grade students of the biological and medicine physics faculty has been held the first lecture “Basis of medical instrumentation”. The course lead workers of the company “Altonika”, a participant of the BioPharmCluster “Nothern”.

The first introductory lecture “Basis of medical instrumentation” has been devoted to historical excursion of medical equipment development and achievements of scientists in this sphere, there have been considered basis data from anatomy and human physiology, notions from medicine, biology, physics and medical devices modeling, main principles of medical diagnosis.

In the course of practice part of the session, students got acquainted with diagnostics medical instruments: electrocardiograph, spirometer, pulseoxymetry devices, patient monitors; considered the structure of medical diagnostic instruments, operation principles, and result of measurements. Teachers have shared their experience of scientific-investigation commercialization and serial products creation.

The course is intended on the whole school year. Sessions of the first semester are devoted to investigation of heart-vascular system and respiratory apparatus. During the second semester there will be considered complex measurements and therapeutical instruments.

The laboratory practicum refers to classification of medical diagnostic instruments in theory and practice with consideration of questions of organization of medical instruments development and medical assistance.

The aim of the course is to prepare specialists, managing to simultaneously decide physical and medical tasks of mass and unique diagnostic and therapeutical instruments.

“Having heard the course of lectures and taking part in laboratory sessions, students evidently cannot make an instrument themselves; but will manage to understand its arrangement, regularity of medical equipment creation, physical principles, mathematical models and engineering solution. In future it will allow young specialists to flow into developers` teams of sophisticated medical equipment quickly”, - noted Dmitry Drozdov, lecturer, head of innovation projects of the company “Altonika”.
