Irkutsk researchers develop all-weather wind power generator

Scientists at Irkutsk State Technical University (ISTU) in Siberia have developed a new wind power generator capable of generating electricity irrespective of a wind direction and weather conditions, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reports, citing a university source. The actual developer is Aeroenergotech, an ISTU spin-off company. Under plans, the new aerodynamic turbine powered unit will be rigorously tested in May. ?Our prototype is completed. We want to mount it on the roof of the ISTU Techno-park,? the university source explained. The new generator is much smaller than the conventional triple-screw wind energy systems widely available today. Its blades are protected inside its casing, which is expected to keep the unit out of harm?s way at up to 50 meters per second gusts of wind, rain, or wet snow...
