Next gen processor project for spacecraft announcedTwo Skolkovo residents have agreed to jointly develop and use fault-tolerant processors with ultra-low energy consumption to control small spacecraft.

Sputniks and Multiclet, two residents of the Skolkovo innovation hub outside Moscow, have agreed to jointly develop and use a new generation of efficient fault-tolerant processors with ultra-low energy consumption to be installed in small spacecraft control systems, the Skolkovo Foundation website announced. Multiclet, the processor developer in the joint effort, has designed what Skolkovo claims is brand new multicellular processor architecture. It works with command-filled sentences, not with single commands?a drastic departure from the conventional kernel architecture. Operations within the sentences require no memory resources, which boosts capacity four-to-five times while lowering energy consumption considerably. Under plans, the innovation processors will be used in the TabletSat-2U microsatellite, the first small spacecraft developed by Sputniks and slated for launch in 2014. Sputniks is an innovation R&D center developing, making and ground-testing advanced systems for small spacecraft...
