Lukoil-Perm, the Perm division of Lukoil, a large Russian oil firm, has launched on its Osinskoye oil field in the West Urals a new well that taps into new horizontal drilling technology to produce oil from under the Kama River bottom, Benzol.ru reports. The new well is believed to be ?unique? as it was drilled from a river bank beyond a water protection zone. It is Lukoil-Perm?s second well built according to Lukoil?s modification of horizontal drilling technology and equipped with the firm?s innovation gear. Its horizontal borehole is a reported 600 meters long and more than 1,500 meters deep. It is said to operate at an oil flow rate of about 20 tons a day. According to Igor Mazein, the deputy CEO of Lukoil-Perm, ?the new technology helps us develop the most hard-to-reach reservoirs under the river bottom without violating any environment protection legislation...
