St. Petersburg project on roofs' anti-icing received 1M RUR grant The contest for the best projects in innovation clusters was summed up in St. Petersburg. The winners are nine companies, each received 1M RUR from the municipal budget.

As emphasized by deputy CEDIPT (Committee for Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade) Igor Ilyukhin most of winning projects were selected from the cluster of municipal services.

The aim of the contest is to support innovative projects that are ready for the implementation in St. Petersburg, as well as the promotion of innovation and increasing the demand for innovative products and services. The contest was attended only by the representatives of small and medium businesses that are registered in the city on the Neva river.

For example, LLC Komsomolskaya Pravda Plastics processing plant offered St. Petersburg anti-icing roofs and ultra-strong wheels for subway escalators' rails.

JSC Composite Plant received 1M RUR for the development of materials for the contact inserts of city transport. Ltd. Universum will receive the budget money to implement an integrated system for the automation of trucking companies.

The main criteria used by the Competition Commission in selecting the winners are: the importance of the project for the socio-economic development of the city, increasing the level of employment, economic and fiscal performance of the project, increasing the availability and quality of innovative products and services that are created in the cluster.

The grants from the city government will be also granted to the firms that offered innovations for the medical, information, consumer industry and ecology. For example, AvtoLab company develops a website where St. Petersburg residents will be able to check the concentration of harmful substances in the air.
