RUSNANO and Alcoa sign a cooperation agreementAlcoa Company and RUSNANO signed an agreement on cooperation in the production of aluminum drill pipes with a protective nanocoating. The use of such coating will significantly slow down the wear of drill pipes and increase their service life in a corrosive environment. The introduction of appropriate developments is carried out by experienced Alcoa Technical Center.

The cooperation agreement was signed by the Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Alcoa Klaus Kleinfeld and the Board Chairman of RUSNANO JSC Anatoly Chubais at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Alcoa Company is the largest manufacturer of prefabricated aluminum products in Russia. Plants in Samara and Belaya Kalitva produce a wide range of flat-rolled and press-rolled products of aluminum alloys for aerospace, packaging industry, shipbuilding, ground transportation, as well as for the industrial and construction market segments. According to the agreement, the joint production will be located in Alcoa’s Samara plant and will produce aluminum drill pipes for the oil and gas sector of Russia. The co-investor of the project will be Rusnano Capital, a subsidiary of RUSNANO JSC.

It is expected that the protective nanocoating will increase the service life of aluminum pipes used for drilling in a corrosive environment by 30-40%.
