Researchers in Siberia?s Kemerovo are looking into the properties of nanosilver particles with an eye to using future results in medicine, cosmetics, in railroad cars and other areas. As the developers at the Kemerovo Institute of Food Science and Technology explained, the nanoparticles they are working on may be used to modify the properties of existing materials and create new substances, coatings, disinfectants or detergents, including cleansers, toothpastes, soaps, etc. For example, one of the possible applications could be a replacement for traditional water chlorination in swimming pools. At the moment, Russia and China are the only two countries to allow use of chlorine in such facilities, and therefore Russian athletes have to travel to Europe to keep themselves in shape in the pools there. The Institute said that ?someone in Moscow has already expressed interest in buying the new product from the Kemerovo developers for use in swimming pools.? The nanoparticles could also be used as germ killers in catering facilities and by agricultural companies...
