Tatarstan in the mid-Volga area may expect a new Russo-Saudi project over the next two years, aimed at developing Russian-based production of world-class glass reinforced plastic pipes, announced Compozit, a Russian developer and manufacturer of composite material based products and the Russian partner in the international project. Compozit inked an agreement earlier this month about the implementation of this project with AMIANTIT International Holding, a global leader in glass reinforced plastic pipe production headquartered in Saudi Arabia. Under the terms of the agreement, the partners will build a new facility called Amitek in Tatarstan?s Alabuga special economic zone and invest a total of $30m in the effort. Glass reinforced plastic pipes are corrosion-resistant, lightweight, and exceptionally durable. They are also very stable in aggressive environments, making it a perfect solution for use in water supply and sewer systems. In addition, putting such pipes in place is said to take much less investment than conventional pipes. Applications for glass reinforced plastic pipes are wide and include drinking water supply, waste water systems for chemical and other industries, as well as for household waste water discharge, and also in the oil and gas sector...
