New atherosclerosis therapy nears in vitro test phase in Siberia
Scientists at Tomsk Polytechnic University and the local Research Institute of Cardiology are developing a new method of treating atherosclerosis using a coronary stent with a biodegradable coating
Scientists at Tomsk Polytechnic University and the local Research Institute of Cardiology are developing a new method of treating atherosclerosis using a coronary stent with a biodegradable coating, reported the website of Vesti-Tomsk, a regional TV and radio broadcasting company. The effort is aimed at developing a nanomaterial capable of destroying the components of atherosclerotic plagues that grow inside a blood vessel. The developers want to create a coronary stent that would be inserted into a damaged vessel and then opened there to ?squeeze out? a plaque, thus preventing complete vessel occlusion (clogging). The new nanomaterial is not only expected to reduce the plaque to molecules but also remove its residue from the human body...
