21 innoprojects run by RAS Transfer Technology Center and Rusnano

To date, Technology Transfer Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and RUSNANO is already implementing the 21st project in the field of nanotechnology. During the course of its operation, the company has examined the total of more than 250 scientific developments of the Russian Academy of Sciences from 75 research institutes, according to RUSNANO.

The projects selected during this time are implemented with the participation of Russian development institutions, including nanotechnology centers and venture capital funds established with the participation of RUSNANO, and 10 projects of TTC received the Skolkovo Foundation resident status.

The Center’s objective is commercialization of the developments of RAS’ research institutes. The employees of the Center, assisted by the external experts, conduct scientific and technical expertise to determine the commercial attractiveness of the introduced technologies. The projects that passed the screening stage undergo refinement of the business component, which includes the development of business model, marketing plan and business plan of the project.

Technology Transfer Center of RAS and RUSNANO is a powerful tool of searching for high-quality high-tech projects - Evgeny Evdokimov, Managing Director Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs, emphasizes, - considerable scientific potential is concentrated in the research institutes of RAS, and fundamental research of Russian scientists is recognized worldwide. But in order that the ideas of scientists might become sought-after products in the market, the competencies at the junction of science and business are required. Today we can say that the Centre has managed to become a bridge that allows scientists and entrepreneurs to find and understand each other.

One of the main problems of the Russian venture capital market is the lack of high-quality projects having high market potential, - Alexey Gostomelsky, Director General of TTC RAS and RUSNANO, says. - The quality of the projects that we implement is recognized both by the scientific and business communities. For instance, our project for the production of polymeric adhesives for teeth whitening, implemented together with INEOS RAS, was among the winners of the World competition of consumer goods held by Philips Group of companies. And the Singazteh project to create compact generators of synthesis gas based on the membranes with mixed oxygen-ion conductivity, which we implement together with the scientists from ISSC of RAS(UB), won the projects competition in the Energotech cluster of the Skolkovo Foundation.

As it was noted by Vladimir Komlev, the Doctor of Technical Sciences, the leading researcher of IMMS RAS, winner of the President's Prize in Science and Innovation for 2011: The achievements of our research team in the field of creating biocompatible bone substitutes are being currently implemented by us within the BioNova project, which would be impossible without the participation of the Centre.

Vladimir Popov, General Director of Tehpromlit CJSC (the project company funded by the Nanomet Foundation), says that TTC RAS and RUSNANO carries out transfer of the most advanced technologies: With the help of TTC in our company we master the manufacture of products of new high-nitrogenous austenitic casthouse steel, developed by the scientists from the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science RAS. According to their characteristics, the block valves of new steel significantly exceed competitive products. Given the positive experience of working with the Centre, in 2013 we plan to launch jointly the project to use new developments of RAS in the production of gray cast and high-test cast iron with spheroidal graphite in our new plant in Voronezh.

Vice-President of RAS Academician Sergei Aldoshin believes that TTC RAS and RUSNANO successfully creates the conditions for the commercialization of scientific developments and innovations between the research institutes of RAS, Russian development institutions and business in the sphere of nanotechnology: We are glad that the ideas of RAS’ scientists take the shape of a real product in demand. One of the efficient catalysts for this process is the TTC RAS and RUSNANO.


Technology Transfer Center of RAS and RUSNANO was established with the assistance of the Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs to search for commercially interesting projects in the academic institutes of RAS. After passing through the expertise, the selected projects undergo Packaging for subsequent transfer to investors, the priority among which is given to nanocenters and venture funds, created with the participation of RUSNANO OJSC. TTC projects are highly evaluated by the institutions of modernization - for example, the project to develop the sources of EUV-lithography radiation attracted a Skolkovo grant. The Inpolia project to develop transdermal therapeutic systems received high assessment by the experts and financing by the Fund for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises in Science and Technology, and also became the resident of the Idea nanotechnology center of the Republic of Tatarstan.
