Russia?s first hybrid diesel-solar power station launched in South SiberiaRussia has launched in a far-flung area of Siberia?s Altay Republic its first hybrid 140kW diesel-solar power station.

Russia has launched in Yailyu, a far-flung settlement in Siberia?s Altay Republic, its first hybrid 140kW diesel-solar power station, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reports. The hybrid power-generating system is self-contained and includes a set of solar modules and a diesel generator. It is automatically controlled; the diesel generator is on when there?s not enough solar energy. According to expert estimates, Yailyu will have 30-40% of its energy from solar and the rest from diesel operation. It is expected that using the power station will enable local authorities to halve the annual consumption of diesel fuel in this hard-to-reach area. The new system?s estimated service life is 25 years. The station was first assembled back in March and has operated in testing mode since then. The regional authorities are now expected to give their go-ahead to installing similar systems across the entire Altay Republic. The Yailyu power station has been co-funded from Russian federal coffers and by Hevel Solar, a project company of Rusnano, Russia?s largest nanotech company...
