HP commissioned Kazan university laboratory research at $ 30,000

A large U.S. IT company Hewlett-Packard, one of the leaders in solving computer technology tasks in the global market, has selected Kazan Federal University as the winner of the Means of extraction and quick search of the business events information in large text collections scientific research competition. The work was conducted by experts of Intelligence search systems and semantic technologies, one of the University’s laboratories.

Many Russian universities participated in the competition, but HP chose KFU, praising the project proposal of the scientific laboratory of the institution.

Airat Hasyanov, the director of ITIS Higher School opened the meeting with a welcoming speech followed by a ceremonial presentation of HP's certificate on conducting research. He said that the event was held on February 29 not by an accident. It is February 28 and 29, when IT experts celebrate their professional holiday - IT Professional's Day. He thanked the group of Intelligence search systems and semantic technologies scientific laboratory, headed by its director Valery Soloviev, as they were involved in a joint project with HP, put the ideas into practice. Airat Hasyanov highlighted the prospects of development of this research direction, reminded that only the creation and the joint work of the whole university staff will make it more significant and better.

Natalia Vasilyeva and Sergey Serebryakov, the HP’s representatives expressed a strong desire to cooperate with the KFU, especially with ITIS Higher School. The guests attended the university for the first time and it made a great impression on them.

The scientific group of Intelligence search systems and semantic technologies laboratory is to conduct research for HP LABS and to prototype tools for contextual search of unstructured information, for high-quality, meaningful and timely analysis and delivery of knowledge, useful for all interested users of IT-infrastructure, legal departments and other risk management units, reports Kazan IT-park website.


Intelligence search systems and semantic technologies laboratory on the basis of ITIS Higher School started its work in early December last year. The main priorities of the research unit are conducting advanced research and applied development in information technology, active cooperation with leading centers of this field.
