The winners of Imagine Cup Russia

The winners of Imagine Cup Russia The final stage of student technology competition Microsoft Imagine Cup Russia took place on the 6th of April at Skolkovo Hypercube. There were three teams to represent the country at the international finals in St. Petersburg in July this year, as well as the recipients of mini-grants from Microsoft Seed Fund.

The first place in the Social Projects category went to the team of Cherepovets State University Gesis with its eponymous project representing a Kinect-based system in the form of a special computer game which uses special vibratory devices for the rehabilitation of children with diseases of the locomotorium and central nervous system.

The Innovations category winner is Out of Focus team from HSE with its project Kinect Magic - a system for creating innovative presentations and performances using the Kinect sensor to provide magic video effects and collective remote presence.

The Games category was won by Quad Damage team from Moscow Aviation Institute with its project Lasercraft - a game which uses Windows Phone as the player interface and infrared light for positioning, makes it possible to use augmented reality during the game, GPS, compass, accelerometer, and display game objects on the interactive map.

There were 300 applications submitted for Imagine Cup Russia this year. It is three times more than in the past year. Moscow welcomed 28 teams from 11 cities of Russia: Novosibirsk, Astrakhan, Yekaterinburg, Vladivostok, St. Petersburg, Saratov, Perm, Voronezh, Kazan, Kaliningrad and Moscow.

The president of Microsoft Russia Nikolay Pryanishnikov stressed that the participants have has already won their main victory: they were in the focus of major investors, known tech experts and federal media.

Moving Hooves, SkyChroma and Brainy Studio startups received mini-grants from Microsoft Seed Fund in the amount of $10K each for the development of their projects.

In addition, Microsoft announced the launch of the Imagine Cup Grants Program in the amount of $3M for 3 years. The best teams will receive cash grants for their projects under this program.
