Yandex: Adults ask ‘how much’ and children ‘how’

Yandex Company has analyzed children’s queries and found the most popular ones, as well as the dynamics of children's interests.

The wording changes with age. In the first grade kids ask ‘how to make a matchbox house’, in the fourth – ‘how to find the area of a triangle’, in the seventh – ‘how to confess love to a girl when you meet her after school’, and in the eleventh grade – ‘where to study after 11 class’.

Queries are often about school assignments, such as ‘how to make a presentation of my class’ (third grade), ‘how to solve a math problem’ (fifth grade), ‘how to write an essay on the Russian language exam (tenth grade).

The most popular word in children's requests is ‘how’, mainly in queries such as ‘how to download’ and ‘how to do’. For comparison, the most common adults’ request is ‘how much’.

The most common request theme is study. Boys’ queries related to the school programme make 9%, girls - 25%. The second place goes to queries related to IT sphere (25% and 8% respectively), games are on the third place (24% and 3%).

Gender and age of young people were identified using the Crypt technology, which is based on the Matrixnet machine learning method for the web user behavior analysis.
