New nanotube production announced in Novosibirsk
Novosibirsk is launching a one-layer nanotube production line for a range of applications; the regional government refers to the project as a ?revolution in material science?
One-layer nanotube production is being set up in the techno-park of Novosibirsk?s Academgorodok ?science city.? It?s OCSiAl, a Rusnano portfolio company, that has put together the project, business portal Delovoy Kvartal reported. The nanotubes will be used to manufacture polymer composites, lithium-ion batteries, automobile tires, rubber, and transparent conducting films. As Governor Vasily Yurchenko of the Novosibirsk region put it, ?still there are few people understanding that this will be a revolution in material science.? He underscored that ?this is already the operational reactor? which is making products.? In addition to Rusnano as Russia?s largest nanotech company, OCSiAl has among the main shareholders a group of private investors, including Yuri Koropachinsky, a billionaire from Krasnoyarsk, also in Siberia. Mr. Koropachinsky, now the president of the company, explained that ?nanotubes are 100 times stronger than steel and possess heat-conductance capability ten times higher than that of copper; they don?t melt at very high temperatures...
