Krasnoyarsk now has its Nuclear Medicine Center, the first such facility in Siberia. The Center will offer diagnostics and treatment of cancers, cardiovascular and neurology disorders, Russian news agency ITAR-TASS reported, citing Natalia Pogrebnaya from the Center?s press service. The new Center has been built on the premises of the Siberian Clinical Center. The new medical facility comprises two departments: of radionuclide therapy and of positron-emission tomography (PET). The radionuclide therapy department will have thyroid cancer patients and those with bone pathologies. According to the Center press service, using new Center technologies will help physicians successfully fight thyroid cancer ?in 99% of cases.? At the PET center, specialists will focus on diagnosing cancers, heart problems, and neurology. The department is reported to have a special scanner that can enable doctors to assess the effectiveness of treatment, including chemotherapy, surgeries, radiation therapies, etc., and determine further action.
