Tomsk State University got the status of SIF RVC venture partner

Tomsk State University got the status of SIF RVC venture partner TSU entered into the register of venture partners of the Russian Venture Company Seed Fund which is focused on investments in Russian innovative companies with high growth potential.

There are currently 112 registered Venture Partners of RVC Seed Fund. These organizations search for innovative projects, preparing them for presentation to investment committee of the Fund, post-investment support for projects and they also interact with Fund’s experts.

In order to attract venture capital, developers and small businesses should contact management companies of venture funds or venture partners of the Seed Fund - the manager of commercialization of R & D TSU Alex Kosenko says. - Preparation of documents, which is required to consider applications of innovative projects for funding, usually costs tens of thousands of rubles. Now, the TSU will be responsible for the preparation of such applications, it will create a business model with co-investors and submit applications directly to the investment committee of RVC Seed Fund.

Collaboration of TSU, private investors and RVC Seed Fund can contribute to raising much more money in innovative startups created by the university within the Federal Law of 02.08.2009 № 217-FL, and a more rapid releasing of innovative products to the market. We would remind you that the Federal Law 02.08.2009 № 217-FL allows universities to become the founders of companies, investing in their charter capital and intellectual property.

A new status of TSU is a result of systematic work. The University is developing cooperation with venture capital funds within the past few years, and as part of it the university staff, for example, participates in special events. For example, in 2011, several scientific and technological projects of the University were presented at VI Kazan Venture Fair, and in 2012 TSU specialists visited the XII Russian Venture Fair in St. Petersburg.

To work with venture capital investments you need to have special knowledge and skills. Therefore, specialists of the commercialization of R & D TSU have been trained under the program Attracting Additional Funding from Direct (venture) Investments, developed by the order of RUSNANO, and intend to upgrade their qualifications in this area, the press service of the University says.
