Accepting applications to participate in Technovations Cup international competition of students' innovative technology projects started. It is held for the eighth time by Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology with the support of the largest investment companies and venture funds.
Technovations Cup’s task is to find promising scientific and research projects in the student community and assist young scientists in developing them to turn their innovations into successful technology businesses.
The projects are accepted if a team has at least one student, a graduate student or a recent university graduate in the following areas:
- Information Technology and Telecommunications - Biotechnology, pharmaceutics and medical technology - Electronics, instrument and mechanic engineering - Chemical and Oil & Gas Technology - Nanotechnology and New Materials - Energy and energy-saving technologies - Nuclear Technology - Other technologies
The best contestants will have an opportunity to participate in a unique educational program in Moscow, to find investors for their scientific development among venture capital funds or business angels, get professional expertise of their projects, win a cash prize and more.
In addition, the Technovations Cup finalists will be able to use a wide range of services free of charge provided by the competition partners: high-class advice on intellectual property protection, assistance in developing a marketing plan, patenting, free software and other opportunities.
The projects reaching the finals of the competition annually receive intense coverage in the media and the business community and attract venture capital investment. Within several years the competition gathered a number of specialists from science and business ready to assist in the development of technology businesses created by students and postgraduates. David Yang, Chairman of the Board of ABBYY, notes that the level of student projects is constantly rising, and believes that such initiatives help the teams improve their ideas and contribute to their advancement.
