Tomsk Polytechnic University made more of science than other universities

Tomsk Polytechnic University has won the first place in the rating of Russian Ministry of Education among Russian universities in terms of extra-budgetary funds raised for scientific developments. This is an annual rating made by the Ministry on the basis of official scientific reports provided by universities at the end of each year, the university said.

The volume of extra-budgetary funds attracted by TPU for its developments exceeded one billion rubles last year. This year it is planned to increase this amount to 1.3 B RUR.

This is due to the fact that TPU carry out well-developed applied research by the orders of enterprises, state-owned companies and foreign partners, - said the Vice Rector of TPU for Science and Innovations Viktor Vlasov. - And also the fact that TPU is a polytechnic university, it has a wide range of scientific disciplines that are of industrial companies and corporations interest.

According to Viktor Vlasov, these are the developments in oil and gas, oil and gas delivery, space technology, nuclear energy, atomic power engineering, non-destructive control methods, electric and chemical technologies, technologies for water purification, etc.

There are 22 major scientific researches in our university. And this is our main advantage over a number of Russian universities that specialize in one particular direction – pro-rector noted.

According to the rankings, TPU also gains the lead in attraction the funding from foreign sources - 155, 5 M RUR, and is atop among Tomsk universities and research institutions by the number of published studies, received patents, defense of doctoral and master thesis, international contracts and grants.

It is natural that scientific potential, the credibility of scientific schools created in TPU play a certain part. We make more than a thousand business contracts and 99.5% of them are carried out without claims from the customer. This suggests that the quality of our work is quite high. - said Victor Vlasov.

We would note that 136 monographs, 2,3 thousand scientific articles in indexed journals were published in TPU, 154 patents received, 32 doctoral and 120 master theses defended, 275 students received grants in 2011.
