A brand new fiber optics engineering center is expected to start operation in Saransk, the capital city of the Republic of Mordovia in the mid-Volga area, the official Mordovia Government website announced. The new Center will be built in the territory of the existing Technopark-Mordovia, and the regional administration expects it to become ?Russia?s first world-class infrastructure project in fiber optics and optoelectronics.? The Center will focus on the development and testing of new types of fiber light guides to support the laser, sensing technology and telecommunications sectors. Longer-term plans include the setup of small-scale manufacture of a range of special fiber LEDs and LED-based devices.
